Mr Jason SC Tan obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degrees with Honours from The University of Melbourne. He then went on to Basic Surgical Training at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and Advanced Surgical Training in General Surgery at Austin Health.

Jason's surgical career is accentuated by the Gordon-Gordon Taylor Medal for the best score in the Basic Surgery Written Examination in Australia and New Zealand. He has enjoyed a wide variety of surgical experiences in many tertiary hospitals across Australia.

Jason particularly enjoyed his time as a registrar in Endocrine Surgery and after obtaining his Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), went on to complete three further years of sub-specialty post-fellowship training in Endocrine Surgery. This included Endocrine Surgery/Head and Neck Surgery Fellowships at Austin Health, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital/Fremantle Health and Liverpool Hospital. 

He has returned to Melbourne with public hospital appointments at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Western Health and Austin Health. His private practice is based in Epworth Health, in particular, Epworth Freemasons, Pascoe Vale Health and 195 Specialist Centre in Bulleen.

Jason has a keen interest in surgical education. He is on the Court of Examiners for General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is a Clinical Tutor for The University of Melbourne at Austin Health Clinical School, Western Health Clinical School and St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Clinical School. He has also been the Director of Clinical Training at Western Health.
